Black History Month UK 2025

For the second year running, House of Nyabinghi invites you to be part of our 10 Word Story initiative, a creative celebration in honour of Black History Month UK 2025 and its powerful theme: Standing Firm in Power and Pride. This October, we’re calling on voices from across the global African diaspora to distil truth, heritage, and imagination into ten words that inspire, uplift, and connect.

 

Why 10 Words?

Ten words can hold a universe. Create a vision. Change a nation. Power a revolution. Our initiative honours the tradition of storytelling — a legacy carried in our music, art, and lived experiences — while giving it a contemporary stage.

The Inspiration

The 2025 theme draws from our upcoming 2026 Weekly Planner, which spotlights Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, UK, USA, and Venezuela, ten nations deeply tied to the legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Many descendants of enslaved peoples in these lands continue to shape culture, innovation, and identity in extraordinary ways.

Our mission remains the same: connect, converse, and create with our community; the invisible creatives and uncredited authors whose stories are woven into the very fabric of society, yet too often go unheard.
