Our Story

Pronounced NY-BING-EE meaning 'abundance', Nyabinghi is one of the ancient African queens across Rwandan, Tanzanian, and Ugandan history, who drew strength from her powerful collective.

Across the 18th and 19th centuries, her spirit is believed to be the force behind Rwandan Queen Muhumuza’s - wife of King Kigeli IV – fight against colonisation in East Africa and patriarchal systems.

In direct connection as part of their denomination, one of the oldest Mansion’s within the Rastafari religion venerates her; The Nyabinghi Order.
