The Afrofuturism concept lives at the intersection of science fiction, philosophy, music, art and spirituality, and it has been shaping Black intellectual and creative life for over a century.

Below, we have listed some of the highly anticipated book releases for 2026:

 

Black As Diamond

Author: UM Agoawike

Released on 3 March 2026 and based in fantasy fiction, the story is about a cursed warrior and a reckless healer.

 

Graphic Novel: Martyr Loser King

Author: Saul Williams

Release due 28 April 2026, Saul continues to expand his project and storytelling around Afrofuturist themes of cyberpunk, technology, resistance, and digitalisation.

 

Season of the Serpent

Author: Suyi Davies Okungbowa

Release due 11 August 2026, it's a fantasy fiction book that mixes abstract futuristic worlds and Nigerian community. Part of the Nameless Republic Trilogy, this will be the final instalment.

 

The Fall of the Crowned King

Author: Amber V. Nicole

Release due 24 November 2026 and is a dark romance fantasy that is highly anticipated within the Black speculative fiction spaces.

 

The Seven Daughters of Dupree

Author: Nikesha Elise Williams

Released on 27 January 2026, it's a historical fiction story about seven generations of women between enslavement and present day, with elements of resilience and heritage crucial to the Afrofuturist perspective of ‘Black Futures’.

 

The Year of the Mer

Author: LD Lewis

Released on 7 April 2026, it's set within the underworld of the sea. This fictional generational trauma love story is the sequel to Saga Press!

 

Wicked Endeavours

Author: Kamilah Cole

Release due September 2026, it's a romantic fantasy based on betrayal, revenge and social commentary.
