Ten Words. Infinite Power.

House of Nyabinghi is a cultural brand that celebrates African futurism, Afro-futurism, and contemporary cultural expression. We work with emerging designers, artists, and storytellers from across the global African diaspora to create and share work that is bold, beautiful, and deeply rooted in heritage.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: connect, create, and converse with our community — locally, nationally, and globally. We are cultural educators, collaborators, and champions of voices too often unheard.

The 10 Word Story initiative is one of our most dynamic and inclusive projects. Now entering its second year in 2025, it began with a simple but profound idea: can you tell a story in just ten words? This creative challenge strips away complexity and focuses on pure expression. No more, no less — ten words that can inspire, educate, or provoke thought.

The inspiration came from our annual Calendar of Culture & Weekly Planner, which celebrates ten African diaspora nations — Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, UK, USA, and Venezuela. These countries are home to many descendants of enslaved peoples from the Transatlantic Slave Trade, and each continues to shape the cultural, social, and creative landscape in extraordinary ways.

As we moved through the design and production phase of the Calendar of Culture & Weekly Planner 2025 - a tool not only for organising your schedule, it's a cultural keepsake, a journal for affirmations, a canvas for ideas, and a celebration of heritage - it became the seed that birthed our 10 Word Story initiative; a call to Black society to capture worlds of meaning in just ten words during Black History Month UK.

 

The Challenge

Using one of our value pillars — Creative, Heritage, Innovative, Love, or Ubuntu — storytellers are challenged to craft an original 10 Word Story. The only rule? Ten words. No more, no less.

Each story can be:

  • Factual

  • Fictional

  • Drama (could be performed)

  • Poetry

The magic lies in creating a story that inspires from the very first word to the last, proving that sometimes, the smallest number of words can hold the biggest truths.
